Criw Cymraeg

Ysgol Penmaes has a Criw Cymraeg which has 15 representatives from across the whole school. Their tenure lasts an academic year and many young people are keen to be involved. You will be able to spot the Criw Cymraeg members around the school as each member wears a Welsh dragon badge!

The Criw Cymraeg are responsible for encouraging the use of the Welsh language throughout the school in addition to promoting a positive Welsh ethos.

In Criw Cymraeg meetings, the ‘Patrwm yr Wythnos’ is decided for the following week, this phrase is then taught in the Gwasanaeth Cymraeg.

The Criw Cymraeg introduced a reward system for speaking Welsh. Both children and staff are rewarded for speaking Welsh in and out of the classroom. They are awarded with a ‘Tocyn Iaith’ for ‘Siaradwyr yr Wythnos’ in Gwasanaeth Cymraeg which is held every Tuesday.

As a school we are currently working towards the Cymraeg Campus Bronze Award and this means we have lots of targets to achieve. These targets are achieved by using lots of Welsh during day to day tasks and by the Criw Cymraeg discussing what can be done to improve the amount of Welsh used in school.
