Hello everyone

Another year has flown by and here we are saying goodbye to another groups of sixth formers who are moving on to pastures new – to colleges in Brecon, Ammanford, Cheltenham, Carlisle and Pembrokeshire. We wish them all the best for their futures. We are also saying goodbye to one of our younger pupils whose family is moving to Kent.

Three staff are also leaving us. Rebecca B is moving with her family to Yorkshire and Miguel is moving with his family back to Portugal - we wish them good luck in their new homes.

Jane Price is retiring after 37 years dedicated service to Penmaes. She has given so much to the school over the years as a teaching assistant and more recently as a higher level teaching assistant including driving buses, swimming and trampolining and supporting pupils on inclusion into mainstream schools; she also gives her time to run sports clubs for our pupils after school. She will be greatly missed - thank you Jane for all you have done for the many pupils of Penmaes, past and present. Enjoy your retirement!

We had a very successful Core Visit 2 from our Challenge Adviser Anwen Orrells who reported that we have made very good progress in meeting the targets in our School Improvement Plan. I am very grateful to all the staff for their continued hard work to achieve high standards for our pupils.

We also had a very positive 2 days with the Achievement Visit Team for the Welsh Network of Healthy Schools Scheme (WNHSS) National Quality Award. The pupils gave great presentations about how Penmaes is a very healthy and happy school and we hope to hear a positive outcome in a few weeks time.

Again pupils have excelled in a wide range of activities and represented the school brilliantly. The list is long and includes fantastic dance and drama performances in school, the theatre and with other schools, being wonderful ambassadors in sport and pupil voice in national events and of course in gaining Duke of Edinburgh awards. Bendigedig pawb!

I wish you all a very happy and sunny summer!

                                          Cael pawb gwyliau da!

   Regards/Cofion

Julie Kay, Headteacher
